In the present, Keira shifts the box in her hold and shares a tentative smile with Irene.

Keira, in Narration: 

And at least I’m not alone.

Keira passes Abby and their mother, Carolynn, as she goes through the kitchen and up the stairs to the second floor. She enters the last empty room and sets her box down to examine her new space. The room is rather small, but well-lit with a large window on one side and a sliding glass door at the far wall.

Irene: Okay, so it’s a little small…

Keira, deadpan: You don’t say.

Irene: But let’s see what’s outside that door before we judge, hmm?
