The scene shifts to the visualization of Keira’s thoughts. In this mindscape, she sits on a park bench and looks to Irene, who’s hovering over one shoulder. There are creatures all around them that are not of this world. Some seem to just be going about their business, while others watch Keira intently.
Keira, in Narration:Â
There is so much more to it than what people see.
Well…
What normal people see.
Her stony gaze shifts from Irene to look directly at the reader.
Keira, in Narration:
I’m not normal in the slightest.
Still in the haze of her mind’s eye, Keira and Abby stand apart, their backs turned to each other.
Keira, in Narration:Â
Maybe Abby is right.
Irene looks up at Keira. Despite the bitter resignation in Keira’s thoughts, she knows how much Keira is hurting.
Keira, in Narration:Â
Maybe I am crazy.
Keira’s thoughts turn back to reality, and she enters her new home. Boxes like the one she carries fill the otherwise empty space.
Keira, in Narration:Â
But this is the world I live in.
