RETURN + RECAP!

A Portrait drawing of the creator. Blue-green hair and eyes, pale skin, sleeveless crewneck shirt and a playful smile.

It's good to be back.

I can't believe it's been almost two YEARS since you've all last heard from me. There's been a lot going on that I'll get into a little, but the exciting part is that Second Sight will be returning in April 2022!

Recap for chapters 1 through 2. See transcript below.

EmGee (artist): Hey Folks, it’s been a while! Due to personal circumstances, I haven’t been able to update in, ah, let’s see…. *checks calendar* Two years!?! YEARS??? I’m so sorry!!!

There’s no way anyone’s still actually following after so much time, right? (If you are, you’re amazing but why are you still here lol ^^;)

If there’s ever another stupidly long hiatus, please rest assured that I won’t ever abandon this webcomic! It’s a story that’s very close to my heart and already planned out through to the end.

Thank you so much!

That being said, let’s do a quick recap since it’s been TWO FREAKING YEARS. (or you can go ahead and skip to the next actual page via the link below~)

CHAPTER ONE

Keira moves to a new town due to family conflict, possibly related to the fact that she sees things which aren’t there. Things such as her fairy-like companion and confidant, Irene.

Keira is saved from being (accidentally?) drowned by aquatic beings. She and Garrett bond over this experience. After Garrett leaves, her assailants return to apologize and introduce themselves as Leila and Loni, sibling naiads. They seem genuine, but Keira is still wary of them.

CHAPTER TWO

It’s Keira’s first day at a new high school. She’s shown around by Erin and her friend Rhys. It shouldn’t have surprised her that Garrett also goes to school here.

But he’s…different here. Evasive and aloof. Erin warns Keira to steer clear of him and his crowd.

Erin: Trust me, kiddo. You don’t want to get involved with the likes of them.

Keira approaches him anyway and gets bullied for her efforts.

Keira: You’re only human, Chelsea. I’ve dealt with far worse than the likes of you.

Garrett tells Keira that rescuing her doesn’t mean he owes her his friendship…though he seems conflicted.

Garrett: Look, I…I know what it’s like to feel alone. So if you can keep it a secret, we can still talk at the park, alright?

Keira doesn’t take it well, and Erin overhears everything.

Keira: This time they don’t even know I’m crazy.

CHAPTER THREE (SO FAR)

Despite her intention to never return, Keira sits at the edge of Leila and Loni’s pond, covered in small wounds.

Mental Health, COVID, and Second Sight’s Return

A Portrait drawing of the creator. Blue-green hair and eyes, pale skin, sleeveless crewneck shirt and a playful smile.

It's good to be back.

I can't believe it's been almost two YEARS since you've all last heard from me. There's been a lot going on that I'll get into a little, but the exciting part is that Second Sight will be returning in April 2022!

When we suddenly went radio silent after our last update in October 2020, a lot of things were happening. The American presidential election was a month away, the pandemic was building momentum with no vaccine in sight, so many of us were dealing with the effects of sudden and long-term isolation while in quarantine or working from home…I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager, but as my 30th birthday was approaching both were worse than they’d ever been. I was diagnosed with ADHD. I dyed my hair green and have been called a Disney Princess by multiple children – I love it. I came out to my parents at long last and it went okay! My first pride parade came and went, a did all I could to support the Black Lives Matter movement but too afraid of the pandemic to go to a protest in person. I had my closest relationship lasting 10 years fall apart without any sort of closure. I lost my will to create and interact with the world outside my immediate circle. My darling 14-year-old cat had passed. Family members had major surgery with one developing a potentially life-threatening infection. I moved and had my living expenses triple. I started a new creative venture and made grand plans for my stories and art, which I couldn’t begin until I felt like I had enough control over my life to actually make progress.  But I’m there, finally. Or…you know, close enough to try.

It’s so good to see you all again, and for those of you who are still here…thank you so much for your patience. Love you guys.

Next, some housekeeping!

  • There’s been a few changes to the website to improve design and load time. The transcripts for the last two are getting updated, so for those of you who use Google Translate or Speech Recognition Software keep an eye out for that.
  • Before the next episode goes up, I’ll be posting a story so far recap for those who want a quick refresher. More info on that to come as I figure out exactly how we’re doing that.

And finally, I’ve made a Spotify Playlist for Second Sight that’s ready to share! I listen to this myself while working on the comic, and thought you guys might like to hear it as well. I’ll be posting a spoiler-free breakdown of each song down the road, but come enjoy the vibes with me in the meantime!

Webcomic Update Schedule

WEBCOMIC STATUS

In-Progress

NEXT UPDATE:
May 7th

For those of you who like predictability, here’s the anticipated schedule going forward:

While we have a chapter in progress, Second Sight will typically update twice per month.

A Hiatus (unscheduled break) or Intermission (scheduled break between chapters) will typically last a month or two, but that really depends on my work productivity and other interfering circumstances. Follow me on BlueSky for schedule changes and comic updates!
